Ingredients
Salmon Patties
- 1 (14.75 ounce) can wild salmon
- 1 egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons grated shallot
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh chives, or 2 teaspoons dried
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh dill, or 2 teaspoons dried
- 1 tablespoon minced parsley, or 2 teaspoons dried
- 1 heaping teaspoon Dijon mustard
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon cracked pepper
- Pinch cayenne pepper
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Instructions
- Prepare the Salmon Mixture: Drain the canned wild salmon and place it in a medium-sized bowl. Add the beaten egg, grated shallot, fresh lemon juice, mayonnaise, minced fresh chives, dill, parsley, Dijon mustard, kosher salt, cracked pepper, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Mix all ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
- Form the Patties: Use your hands or a spoon to shape the salmon mixture into evenly sized patties, about 3 inches in diameter and ¾ inch thick. This size ensures even cooking and a nice crispy exterior.
- Heat the Oil: Place a skillet or frying pan over medium heat and add 2 tablespoons of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until shimmering but not smoking, which will help prevent sticking and promote browning.
- Cook the Patties: Carefully place the salmon patties into the hot skillet. Cook them for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they develop a golden-brown crust and are heated through. Flip gently to maintain their shape.
- Serve and Enjoy: Once cooked, transfer the patties to a plate lined with paper towels to drain any excess oil. Serve warm as is or with your favorite dipping sauce or salad for a complete meal.
Notes
- For a firmer texture, you can add a small amount of breadcrumbs or crushed crackers to the mixture before forming patties.
- If using dried herbs, increase the quantity slightly as they are less potent than fresh.
- Salmon patties can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for up to 1 month.
- Serve with lemon wedges or tartar sauce for added flavor.
