Deliciously rich and fluffy chocolate pancakes made with cocoa powder and chocolate chips, perfect for a decadent breakfast or brunch treat. These pancakes are easy to make and served best with chocolate syrup, whipped cream, or fresh fruit.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 8 pancakes

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted

Add-ins and Toppings

  • 1 cup chocolate chips plus more for serving
  • Chocolate syrup for serving
  • Whipped cream or fresh fruit for serving

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the milk and egg together until smooth, then stir in the melted butter.
  3. Make the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; avoid over-mixing to keep pancakes light and fluffy. Fold in the chocolate chips carefully.
  4. Preheat the Pan: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil.
  5. Cook Pancakes: Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and edges look set, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook the other side until cooked through, about another 2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Serve pancakes warm with additional chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and a dollop of whipped cream or fresh fruit as desired.

Notes

  • Use fresh baking powder to ensure pancakes rise well.
  • Milk can be substituted with any plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Add chocolate chips to the batter for melty pockets of chocolate or sprinkle on top while cooking for extra texture.
