Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups milk
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons butter, melted
Add-ins and Toppings
- 1 cup chocolate chips plus more for serving
- Chocolate syrup for serving
- Whipped cream or fresh fruit for serving
Instructions
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the milk and egg together until smooth, then stir in the melted butter.
- Make the Batter: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined; avoid over-mixing to keep pancakes light and fluffy. Fold in the chocolate chips carefully.
- Preheat the Pan: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat and lightly grease it with butter or oil.
- Cook Pancakes: Pour 1/4 cup of batter onto the skillet for each pancake. Cook until bubbles form on the surface and edges look set, about 2-3 minutes. Flip and cook the other side until cooked through, about another 2 minutes.
- Serve: Serve pancakes warm with additional chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, and a dollop of whipped cream or fresh fruit as desired.
Notes
- Use fresh baking powder to ensure pancakes rise well.
- Milk can be substituted with any plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
- Add chocolate chips to the batter for melty pockets of chocolate or sprinkle on top while cooking for extra texture.
