Ingredients
Dough
- 3 tubes (8 ounces each) refrigerated crescent roll sheets
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened, divided
Filling
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Prepare the dough. Unroll each tube of crescent roll dough and separate the triangles along the perforations. Spread about 1 tablespoon of softened butter evenly over each piece to ensure rich, flaky layers in the final product.
- Mix cinnamon sugar. In a small bowl, combine the granulated sugar and ground cinnamon thoroughly to create the classic spiced sugar filling for the cruffins.
- Coat the dough with cinnamon sugar. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture generously over the buttered dough pieces, pressing lightly to adhere the sugar to the surface.
- Roll into cruffins. Starting from the wide end of each triangle, roll the dough tightly towards the tip to form a spiral resembling a muffin shape, ensuring the cinnamon sugar layers are rolled inside.
- Prepare the muffin tin. Lightly grease a muffin tin or use non-stick spray to prevent sticking during baking.
- Place rolled dough in the tin. Set each rolled crescent dough piece upright into the muffin cups, fitting snugly but with enough room to expand during baking.
- Bake the cruffins. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake the cruffins for approximately 15–18 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up.
- Cool and serve. Remove the cruffins from the oven, allow them to cool slightly in the tin for about 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool further before serving. Optionally, brush with additional melted butter and sprinkle more cinnamon sugar for extra flavor.
Notes
- Using refrigerated crescent dough significantly reduces preparation time, making this recipe quick and beginner-friendly.
- For a richer taste, consider adding a filling such as cream cheese or jam inside the dough before rolling.
- Watch closely towards the end of baking time to prevent over-browning.
- Best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for 2 days.
