Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 12 ounce can sweetened condensed milk
- 22 ounces butterscotch chips (two 11 ounce bags)
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare Pan: Line an 8×8 inch baking pan with parchment paper or aluminum foil, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy removal of the fudge.
- Melt Ingredients: In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the sweetened condensed milk and butterscotch chips. Stir continuously until the chips are completely melted and the mixture is smooth and creamy. Be careful to avoid burning by keeping the heat low and stirring regularly.
- Add Flavor and Salt: Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the vanilla extract and optional salt until fully incorporated to enhance the flavor.
- Pour Into Pan: Quickly pour the fudge mixture into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula for an even layer.
- Chill: Refrigerate the fudge for at least 2 hours or until firm and set.
- Cut and Serve: Once firm, lift the fudge out of the pan using the overhang. Cut into small squares and serve or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Notes
- Use a low heat setting to avoid scorching the butterscotch mixture.
- Line the pan for easier removal and cleanup.
- Store fudge in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
- Add chopped nuts like pecans or walnuts for extra texture if desired.
- Fudge keeps well refrigerated for up to two weeks.
