Ingredients
Basic Oatmeal
- ½ cup rolled oats
- 1 cup water, milk, or non-dairy milk
- ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, add the rolled oats, chosen liquid (water, milk, or non-dairy milk), and kosher salt.
- Bring to Boil: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Simmer: Reduce heat to low and simmer the oatmeal for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently, until the oats are soft and have absorbed most of the liquid.
- Serve: Once cooked, remove from heat and let it sit for a minute to thicken. Serve warm, adding any desired toppings such as fruits, nuts, or sweeteners.
Notes
- You can substitute rolled oats for steel-cut oats, but increase cooking time accordingly.
- Use non-dairy milk such as almond, soy, or oat milk for a dairy-free version.
- Adjust the salt quantity based on your taste preferences.
- Add sweeteners like honey or maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter oatmeal.
- Cooked oatmeal can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
