Ingredients
For the Brownies:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
For the Caramel Cheesecake Layer:
- 16 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup heavy whipping cream
For Assembly:
- 2 cups whipped cream or whipped topping
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce, for drizzling
- 1/4 cup chocolate shavings or chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Brownies: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until combined. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, salt, and baking powder. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined. Pour the batter evenly into a greased 9×13 inch baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Allow to cool completely before cutting into cubes.
- Make the Caramel Cheesecake Layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth and creamy. Add the caramel sauce, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract and continue beating until well incorporated. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until light and fluffy. Refrigerate until ready to assemble.
- Assemble the Trifle: In a large trifle bowl or individual serving glasses, start with a layer of brownie cubes. Follow with a generous layer of the caramel cheesecake mixture. Add a layer of whipped cream or whipped topping, then drizzle with caramel sauce. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of whipped cream on top.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle the top of the trifle with chocolate shavings or chocolate chips and chopped pecans if using. Drizzle additional caramel sauce over the garnish for an extra touch of sweetness. Refrigerate the assembled trifle for at least 2 hours before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set. Serve chilled and enjoy!
Notes
- You can prepare the brownies a day ahead to save time.
- For a nut-free version, omit the chopped pecans.
- Use store-bought caramel sauce for convenience or homemade caramel for a richer flavor.
- Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps in the cheesecake layer.
- The trifle can be assembled in individual glasses for attractive single servings.
- Store leftover trifle covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
