Make quick and easy 30-Minute Ground Beef Philly Cheesesteaks with sautéed onions and peppers, savory seasoned ground beef, and melted provolone cheese, all nestled in soft hoagie rolls. This simplified take on the classic Philly sandwich is perfect for busy weeknights and delivers bold, comforting flavors without the fuss.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 sandwiches

Ingredients

1 yellow onion, diced

1 green bell pepper, diced

1 pound ground beef (90% lean)

½ teaspoon table salt

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

8 oz provolone cheese

4 hoagie rolls (7” each) or 1 French baguette, cut into 4 pieces

Instructions

  • Sauté Vegetables: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Cook diced onion and green bell pepper until softened and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.

  • Cook the Beef: Push veggies aside, add ground beef. Break apart and cook until browned and no longer pink, about 6-8 minutes.

  • Season: Stir in salt, garlic powder, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix well.

  • Add Cheese: Lower heat to low, lay provolone slices over beef and veggies. Cover and melt cheese for 2-3 minutes.

  • Prepare Rolls: Slice hoagie rolls or baguette lengthwise, not cutting all the way through.

  • Assemble Sandwiches: Spoon cheesy beef mixture into each roll.

  • Serve: Serve hot immediately.

Notes

Substitute provolone with American or mozzarella cheese for different melts.

Add sautéed mushrooms for extra umami.

Use ground turkey or chicken for leaner options.

Add hot sauce or red pepper flakes for spice.

Toast rolls before assembling to avoid sogginess.

Store leftover filling in an airtight container up to 3 days; reheat in skillet.
